More information about viniyoga:
The name "Viniyoga" was formulated between 1970 and 1980 by Sri Krishnamacharya, a great yogi who trained many great Yoga teachers such as BKS Iyengar, Pattabhi Jois, TKV Desikachar, AG Mohan, Sri TK Sribhashyam, ...

This term comes from the Yoga SÅ«tras, the great reference texts of yoga (1). In the sixth aphorism of the third book, The Yoga SÅ«tras indicates, concerning meditation, that the choice of the object of meditation must be done with great care, to be adapted to the person. This idea of great attention, precision in the choice and adaptation to the person is expressed by the word: Viniyoga.
In his work with the many Westerners who come to him to practice and study Yoga, Sri Krishnamacharya enunciates this principle:"It is not the person who must adapt to Yoga but Yoga which must be adjusted to each person".
Relayed by his son TKV Desikachar, he laid the foundations for the teaching of Yoga according to the Viniyoga spirit as we know it today.
"The Viniyoga spirit is to start from where you are. Since everyone is different and changes from time to time, there can be no common starting point and ready-made answers will not help. It is necessary to examine the current situation and to question the usually accepted status." TKV Desikachar.
This teaching is relayed from the 1980s in the West by the first students of Desikachar who trained other teachers and the transmission continues to spread in the West.
“Viniyoga a specific pedagogy of yoga that draws on the full extent of yoga. In this pedagogy, the postures and other techniques of Yoga are arranged individually; the construction of the session is secure for independent handling by the student and transmission in group lessons in the West.
The insistence is given on the link between movement and breath which allows to harmonize the circulation of energy in the body and all the planes of the person between them.
The Viniyoga pedagogy takes into account all the plans of the person and pays great attention to the specificity of the needs and potentials of each according in particular to age, responsibilities, aspirations, health difficulties...
These specificities are taken into account in group lessons for adults, young people, seniors, etc., but even more particularly in individual lessons. These allow the implementation of a daily personal practice thanks to a follow-up which accompanies the needs and the particular development of each one. The teaching according to the Viniyoga pedagogy is part of a living tradition of transmission of Yoga which evolves with the world, allowing everyone to feel connected in themselves, with the world, with life and thus to find their rightful place. and come to full fruition. »
